Based on the book written by Kevin Dedmon,
The Ultimate Treasure Hunt
Our heart in treasure hunting is two fold; to be able to show people around the valley and everywhere we go that their Father is actually thinking about them with proof that can't be denied, and to show the workers of the harvest that the harvest is truly plentiful and ripe for an encounter. Treasure hunts are one of the easiest ways I have ever seen to co-labor with the Holy Spirit in the commission Jesus has equipped us for.
Here is how it works:
As a group we meet with one heart, to seek the Lord with everything we have and make HIM the focal point. After we have been saturated in his presence we take our "maps" which are sheets of paper that have five different categories on them: location, person's name, person's appearence, what they could use prayer for, and misc. It is amazing what happens out of that.
There are a few ground rules set up:
1. Stay saturated in his presence.
2. You're not allowed to strive for a clue. Write what comes to your head, remembering we have the mind of Christ.
3. Get everyone else saturated.
After we have His clues for people we make teams of 3-5. The teams find the location God has in mind for them and off we go to find the treasure. I have never been out on a treasure hunt without someone being touched by the love of God. Sometimes the clues are not obvious, you have to continue to ask the Holy Spirit what he meant and what he's saying about the clue given. It is amazingly easy. Think about it, wouldn't you love to be sought out as God's treasure knowing that He wants to touch you in a miraculous way? That's what we get to do.
